If your stay is short and have only one day to be in Siem Reap Angkor or you only prefer to have just a day tour ,so here is my main suggestions itinerary for you :
Itinerary:
*AM : Start a visit to ANGKOR WAT- CITY OF THE TEMPLE: The most famous temple ground in the entire Angkor plain and the world largest religious building in stone .it rivals the seven wonders of the world .was built by a great Hindu king Suryavaraman II (the king of Conquering) in the early of 12th century between AD 1113-1150 over a period of about more than 30 years and dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu-the world maintainer. Suryavaraman II also marked the high point of the Khmer territorial expansion , like many other Khmer temples ,Angkor Wat was as architectural allegory of Hindu religion .The central tower stands for Mount Meru ,the core of Universe and home of the god ,the moat surrounding is the cosmic sea, the wall around is the mountain ranges and the causeway is the rainbow bridge ,separated Earth and Heaven .there are four entrances ,the western entrance counted as the official one.
After exploring the famous Angkor Wat , so then heading to visit the tree over crown Ta Prohm temple .built around year 1186 during the reign of the King Jayavaraman VII ,dedicated to his mother.Ta Prohm was originally constructed as a Buddhist monastery and was enormous wealthy in its time , boasting of control over 3000 villages, thousands of support staffs and vast stores of jewel and gold .the temple is left partially not much restored .the giant tree trunks reaching through the ancient temple building with their root hanging down in the shapes of the snakes or octopus .some insert between the stone joints cracking the stone apart .massive fig and silk -cotton trees grew from the tower and corridors offering some of the best ( tree -in -temple) photo opportunities at Angkor , so the visitors can enjoy this magic as a classic jungle ruin.
PM :After lunch take a ride to visit Angkor Thom -the City of the Great : Is a 3km by 3km walled and moated royal city and was the last great capital of the Angkorian empire .after the Jayavaraman VII (ruled from 1181 -1219) recaptured the Angkorian capital from Champa ( the former people of the central and southern part Vietnam before the 15th century ) invader between year 1177-1181 of the late 12th century .
After this, continue to visit Baphoun (1060-1066), the terraces of the elephants and leper king , north gate or south gate of Angkor Thom city .and before it dark heading to see the most favorite stone smiling face of the Bayon , was built by king Jayavaraman VII ,nearly 100 years after Angkor Wat . it's one of the stunning temples and sits in the middle of Angkor Thom .The temple (also known as the temple of mysterious enigmatic smiling gods ) is today best known for the gigantic face sculptures (over 200 of them in old time) .the faces are thought to be the composite of King Jayavaraman VII and the Buddhisattva Avalokitesvara (the lord of compassion) , A Buddhist deity .Facing in four directions on each tower ,the face signify the king's omnipresence ,watchful protection , and protecting benevolence outward to the four directions .........
